Hour One James
Pastor Darrin is teaching a verse-by-verse study through the book of James—a practical and challenging letter that shows us what it looks like to live as people of God’s Kingdom.
James, the half-brother of Jesus, became a key leader and pastor of the church in Jerusalem and was described by Paul as one of the “pillars” of the early church. His letter addresses many of the real-life struggles believers face and calls Christians to put their faith into action.
James is only five chapters and 108 verses long, but it is packed with direct commands. More than 50 of its verses contain imperative verbs. At times, James sounds almost like a drill sergeant—direct, challenging, and calling believers to action.
Because of its strong emphasis on works, James has sometimes been misunderstood. James is not teaching that we are saved by our works. Instead, he teaches that genuine saving faith produces a changed life. We don’t work for our salvation; we work because of our salvation.
As James puts it plainly, “Faith without works is dead.”
Join us as we study James verse by verse and discover a FAITH THAT WORKS.
